Software Project

What it covers

• The full software development lifecycle: problem analysis, requirements engineering, implementation, testing, delivery
• Technical writing (15% of grade): a report written for a non-technical manager, a technical client rep, and a future dev team, citing 10+ sources (5+ scientific) in APA or IEEE style
• Responsible Computer Science: an ethical evaluation of the project's data privacy, bias and societal impact
• Team process: agile/design-thinking methodology, weekly coach meetings, client communication and stakeholder management

Assessment

No exam. Graded holistically by a committee including the client, on the research phase, project execution and process, product quality, final report, and final presentation. Every dimension needs ≥5.0 and the combined grade needs ≥5.8 to pass. The report has a resit capped at 6.0; the rest of the project does not.

Worth knowing

• Full-time: 15 EC means roughly 42 hours/week, and you're not meant to take anything else alongside it.
• Registration happens early via Project Forum (weeks 2.8–2.9), separate from normal course enrolment — miss it and you miss the quarter.
• Entry is gated on CSE11B, CSE100, CSE13B, CSE12B, and the mandatory SP Bootcamp — confirm all five are cleared beforehand.
